چکیده

This paper presents simulation results for a taxonomy of typical distribution feeders with various levels of photovoltaic (PV) penetration. For each of the 16 feeders simulated, the maximum PV penetration that did not result in steady-state voltage or current violation is presented for several PV location scenarios: clustered near the feeder source, clustered near the midpoint of the feeder, clustered near the end of the feeder, randomly located, and evenly distributed. In addition, the maximum level of PV is presented for single, large PV systems at each location. Maximum PV penetration was determined by requiring that feeder voltages stay within ANSI Range A and that feeder currents stay within the ranges determined by overcurrent protection devices. Simulations were run in GridLAB-D using hourly time steps over a year with randomized load profiles based on utility data and typical meteorological year weather data. For 86% of the cases simulated, maximum PV penetration was at least 30% of peak load.

Voltage unbalance assessment in secondary radial distribution networks with single-phase photovoltaic systems

This research describes a way to analyze voltage unbalance sensitivity for different maximum sizes of a single-phase photovoltaic system (SPPVS) with multiple PV penetration levels in a typical secondary radial distribution network (SRDN) in Spain. This analysis effectively assesses current requirements as specified in regulations concerning maximum size to be connected. It thus helps distribut...

Impact of solar photovoltaics on the low-voltage distribution network in New Zealand

Residential rooftop-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are being installed at an increasing rate, both in New Zealand and globally. There have been concerns over possible issues such as overvoltage and overcurrent. These PV systems are mostly connected at low voltage (LV). This study presents a case study of simulating the entire LV network from a single utility, comprising 10,558 11 kV–415...

Distributed Voltage Control in Distribution Networks with High Penetration of Photovoltaic Systems

In this paper, a distributed method for reactive power management in a distribution system has been presented. The proposed method focuses on the voltage rise where the distribution systems are equipped with a considerable number of photovoltaic units. This paper proposes the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMMs) approach for solving the optimal voltage control problem in a distri...
